OK all, I think I know this, but im desperate and willing to try anything. I just reformatted my computer, and installed windowsxp again. Now i deleted the partitions or whatever it says at the start of xp pro. Question is, is there anyway that I can retrieve data that was lost. Any professional data recovery place that can do this? Or is that data just gone, never to be seen again. Anyone? Was supposed to copy over my wifes folder with poetry, but..........................

On another note, after the fresh install, i keep getting these annoying popups in the middle of my screen. They say a variety of different things, "clean my registry".....HEres one right now, "message from security monitor to windows user on 7/25/2002 6:38:48 pm

Important windows security Bulletin, bla bla bal
then when i click the ok box, its gone, 5 minutes later another one pops up. I installed Adaware, so how do i stop these annoying boxes from popping up

Thanks for any help

You can take the hard drive to a data recovery service but it will cost you at least over $1,000 to get it done. As for the pop-ups, I think the ones you've described are actually a part of Windows. I'm don't know of a know-how to get rid of those yet though, sorry.

Control panel, administrative tools, services. Find the "Messenger" service, stop it and disable it.

You can try data recovery software, but it's pretty likely that the data you want has already been overwritten. Here's a free one:
