Hey all, don't know if this is the right place, but here goes anyways.

I recently had a problem with my HD....I wasn't able to boot to WinXP, except for in Safe Mode. Called Dell Tech Support (Dell computer), and they told me that I was gonna have to reformat my HD. So, before I did, I wanted to back up my stuff (something I realize I should have been doing anyways), so I did so using DVD+RW discs. Now, I am having trouble with about half of the discs that I burned (9 discs burned...probs with 4 of them). I realize I should have checked each one before moving on, but that is neither here nor there now.

My computer (same one I used to burn the discs) won't read the discs. When I put them in, it causes my computer to freeze up temporarily. When using the burning software I used to burn the discs, it tells me that there is info on the disc (like 4.5GB out of the avail 4.7GB), but windows explorer won't read the disc, or even acknowledge that there is something on there. When I look at the rewritable surface, I can see that there was something written to the disc, but I can't seem to get that info back off. The prob with the burning software is that when I try to copy the disc, the disc can't be read.

So, my question is.....Is there anyway that I can save the info that is on those 4 discs, or am I just SOL at this point? Thanks.

normally when you do a back-up, the program used will do the back-up , but to do the restore of the back-up you need to insert the first disk and then the last disk as per instructed to do with the restore program, windows will not be able to read the data in the back-up dosks because it is usally in a format that the back-up program only can read.

not knowing what program you used to make the back-up, not much else can be suggested, only to try to run the restore feature of the program.

Maybe I should clarify....I didn't do a "back up", but rather I burned files to DVD+RW so that I wouldn't lose them after reformatting my HD. Now I can't access those files from anywhere.

BTW, the burning software is Sonic....it's all I've got right now until I can afford something better (ie Roxio or Nero)

Have you reinstalled the full Sonic package, including DLA?

Here's a decent software package that can recover data from removable media, and it's not terribly expensive (40 bucks) and has a free trial so you can see if it will work:

just a thought here on useing RW disks
, if you format them first, then they can be used just like a big floppy disk.

look for, if all the sessions are closed, as if the session is open then u can't read the data. if the session is open try closing it or if doesn"t function the try closing the session from a diff writer. u can know if the session is open from the Disc info of the writing software
