Hi Everyone,

I have an ibm netfinity 5500 m10 server.
550 mhz dual Xeon processors

When ever I boot up the computer it gives me an error PXE-E61 media test failure check cable.

I don't know what to do.

I check the diagosnostics and it said that Dos 7.0 is installed.
I have formatted the Bios for the CD-ROM the boot first. I am trying to boot Suse Linux live CD.

Please help what can I do?
Is there something wrong with the hard drive?

In the dianostics it did not detect the hard drive.
Thanks
Amy

A search on the internet for "PXE-E61 media test failure" brings up many results.

One of them states: "The adapter does not detect link. Please make sure that the cable is good and is attached to a working hub or switch. The link light visible from the back of the adapter should be lit."

That's a normal error if it can't find any bootable devices in the boot order before the network boot option and your network is not set up for this type of booting - which a server won't be, that's for thin client or diskless workstations.

Is the CD drive IDE or SCSI, are the hard drives SCSI, IDE, or SATA? Will it boot from a bootable floppy? SCSI drives will not be seen in the main bios, they are controlled by the SCSI adapter's bios. To boot from SCSI, the boot order has to be SCSI first and the SCSI bios needs to be set to allow bootable CD.

Does the live CD work on other computers?
