A friend of mine wants a cheap computer she can use to store her music and run word and surf the internet and such (no games)

i just completely ripped this comp off a person's wishlist (less their 56k modem -_-)

Does it look good? Work together? Any suggestions for making it cheaper/simpler if you dont think she needs it?

I looked at that case and it seemed fine. Couldnt say anything one way or the other about the power supply. The motherboard I would replace. ASROCK is a really low low end motherboard and it is asking for trouble. Gigabyte sometimes has some cheap motherboards.

This one looks nice:

This looks nice also:
Athlon 64 Socket 754 SIS Chipset, Asus

A lot depends on you and what you think makes sense.

Sempron socket 754 - $60?

The older processors and motherboards may give you more trouble simply because they are older.

You looked at some drives and one was white and one was black. You are probably better off getting the same color. White is sometimes a dollar cheaper because black is just in more demand.

One way to do this is to buy a used PC.

You might be able to just ditch the floppy drive altogether. They are about worthless. I have an Asus A7n8X in an Antec SLK3700 AMB case and it runs fine with an Athlon 2800XP. Some of the lower end Athlon processors seemed to run hotter.

Dell has varying degrees of quality. My dad bought one of those 400Mhz FSB Celeron Dells, but he mostly plays cards on it. It was one of those they were selling for about $299.00 or so. The 533Mhz FSB Models are a little better for around $600.00. May want to get a mid-range Sound card. Speakers may be cheaper locally or they may not.
