I can't get my Epson CX5400 to scan negatives. It says in the manual that it can, but no matter what I try, I can't get it to work :O( There isn't really anything in the user manual or on the web site about trouble with scanning slides/negatives. I've tried playing around with the settings and configurations but I can't get it to work. Can anyone help me with getting this to work. I have a bunch of wedding photos that my wife wants to scan and save onto a disk "forever"
thanks for any help you can give me.

I believe you need an adapter that comes with the scanner (somtimes built in) to scan negatives and slides. It generates light from behind the negative while in scans the front. I looked at a couple of sites with the Epson CX5400 and I don't see anywhere that states it scans slides and negatives. I'm not sure if you can get one after-market, but you may want to poke around on google for a negative/slide adapter you can use on any scanner.

I'd have to second stryker - I checked the promo material and there is no mention of being able to scan a negative which you'd think they would have if it could.
Sounds like a manual page got inserted in error if it has it there.
The simplest way to check is to lift the lid of the scanner and look at the underside of it, is there an area that is different from the rest where light could shine through - or is it a sold sheet of probably black plastic?
I have a microtek scan maker 6800 and it has a 'box' of whiteish plastic in the lid's black bottom layer (next to the glass) top, I got an insert sheet to place on the flat bed with a square hole in it, when placed down it matches this white plastic. You place the negative in this region so that when a negative is scanned light is sent through the negative to the glass below.
