View Full Version : Catalyst Problems?

I updated my Catalyst drivers not to long ago, and now all my games seem to be acting strange. While playing CS:S a few of the maps (Dust, Inferno, so far) begin glitching. The walls, players, floors, etc begin to disappear and reappear.
As I play BF2 the screen will black out in a strange way. Everything will turn pink, purple, and bright cartoon colors.
Anyone who has the new drivers experiencing this? What should I do? How would I uninstall the drivers, and keep the previous version before the one that seems to be giving me problems? Any tips or advice?
I really want to get this fixed. If any more information is needed, let me know!
My specs:
ATI AIW 9800 Pro
Asus P4P800 Deluxe
Windows XP SP2
1 gig of Kingston RAM

According to the ATi site where I got them it's, Catalyst 5.7 Windows XP drivers.

Does that mean you've downloaded the drivers within the last four weeks? ATi updates their drivers every month.

I downloaded it about 2 weeks ago so, yes, I believe it was the most recent driver. I reinstalled them over them again incase I was wrong.
Thanks for the help so far guys. It's much appreciated

I would try to install an older version of the drivers, maybe 5.6 or 5.5, either from ATI's website, or the omega version at www.omegadrivers.net. It's a good idea to update your drivers periodically, but I only do it about once every 5 updates because some issues always arise. A lot of times an older driver will work better.

Ok, well I found the previous drivers and am going to try that.
I tried Omega quite a while ago, but had some serious problems with them and had to switch back. I'd be willing to try them again. Does anyone have opinions on which give a better performance, the Omegas or Catalyst?
What all would I have to uninstall so there is no conflicts?

It seems to vary from revision to revision.
Yes, you have to uninstall the old drivers that are currently installed before you install a new set.

I've started using just the Omega's, since they are the only ones that work on my laptop (mobility chip.) They have an overclocking feature which I don't use, but overall they are pretty much the same.
If you go to control panel, add/remove programs, look for something called "ATI display driver" or similar. Uninstall that, restart, install the new drivers, and restart again.
