hi all,

have a 3 year old Liebert powersure proactive ups with a standard 6"x4"x2.5" 12V 7Ah battery housed within that started to give faults over the weekend (continuous alert tones). upon removal of the case, i found the battery with a spacer inserted along side it. thinking i could put a 4" wide battery inside instead of the standard 2.5", i went to the local batteries plus to find a replacement. found a 12 or 14Ah (i forget now which) unit which fit within the entire cavity. so far, unit seems to be working fine; however in the 3 hours since on the case is somewhat warm to the touch.

my question is this... has anyone else ever found an instance such as this, and if so did you buy the direct replacement, or try the larger battery size? i see a rather complex circuit board inside the ups, with an EPROM chip. could [liebert] have programed it for a 7Ah instead of a larger unit some how?

thanks,
parker

I think UPSs run hot naturally... try placing a fan next to it to help dissipate heat, and you should be fine

thanks for the reply.

i did a little experiment. i have a 2nd liebert unit (purchased at the same time). so i took it's case off, placed a new standard size battery in it, and turned it on after a cool down. i began making notes of what the battery voltage was, and the temp of this particular hot spot on the board, and recorded the same findings.

i figure it's a charging device action, to bring the 12v up to 13.8V (for whatever reason). the temp started to lower once the voltage got up.

i've since put the case back together on both, and have them operating now. once the second ups needs a new battery i'm defintely going to the larger size.
