Anyone see Maximum PC's latest computer...its sick dual madness. cost them 12 grand!!! Here are the SPecs:

Mobo: Tyan K8WE (supports 2 processors, SLI, 16 gb of memory)

Memory: 8 x 1GB Corsair DDR400 Registered
Video Card: 2 x 7800 gtx'
Monitor: 2 x Dell 2405fpw
PSU: PC Power and Cooling Turbo-Cool 850 SSi
Hard Drives: 5 x Hitachi Deskstar 7K500 500gb (Raid 3)
Optical Drives: 2 x Plextor PX-716SA
Soundcard: Sound Blaster X-Fi (not out yet, but supposedly revolutionary)

Mouse: Logitech MX518
OS: WinXP and WinXP x64

Yeah...someone with an FX-57 system beat its benchmarks for around 4000 bucks. :)

Drop the dual monitors and it isn't quite as pricey.

I didn't like that system at all. I would have rather seen them go with a "normal" desktop board and an FX-57 or high end dual core.

Dual CPU's doesn't mean twice the performance. The fact that an FX-57 system beat it proves it. It means better multitasking. That system is not running at 8ghz.

I agree with Spyder. A desktop board would have been better. Server boards are meant to be just that, in a server.

Did they just have money to waste/ NO application needs or even would use up 8gb of RAM and then 2500gb of harddrive space, I think not.

8.8GHz? Where'd you get that number from? Hi Ho is right...just because a dually system has two processors doesn't mean it runs at twice the speed...or in this case, running two Dual Core processors doesn't mean the computer is running at four times the speed. It just means you have two processors (or Dual Core processors) running at their rated speed and sharing (or spreading out) the workload.

It makes no sense to buy a dual core for a gaming machine. Not yet at least because there are no games out there that are written to utilize dual core CPU's. We only have one 64 bit game that I can think of (Far Cry)..and 64 bit CPU's have been out for almost two years now (for the home user). How long will it be before we see the first games are written that can utilize a dual core CPU?....probably not any time soon.

Regular price for those monitors is $1200, and you can get them for $850 with Dell deals. They don't really add a lot to the price. My friend has one, and with a 7800GTX, 2 GB of RAM, and 900 GB of hard drive space, he spent under $2000 for the whole thing. His 3DMark05 score was around 7500, which of course goes to show that you don't have to spend tons of money to get a nive system.

sounds to me more like a kick ass graphic workstation. im sure there will be a mod lingering around in the future to mod them 7800GTXs to Quadro cards.
