Which Printer to Buy? ($100-$200)

Here's a fairly open-ended question coming from someone who knows very little about the printers market. I'm looking for a printer for home use in the range of $100-$200. Faxing/Scanning functionality is not necessary but welcome.

Can anyone recommend a good buy fitting this description? What are the best names to look out for?

dell is offering some cheap B&W laser printers one for $89 and another for $149.99 that can be used to replace inkjet printers.
benefit would be you can print more pages before replacing the toner, hence saving you money in the long run.

If you need color, go with a Canon. They have the most economical price for ink refills and they're really stingy on the amount of ink they use during operation. HP also makes some top quality all-in-one's but their ink prices are much higher.

I would recommend Cannon as well. They are very fast printers and they are cheap on ink. The Cannon Pixma IP4000 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16828102154) is a good buy.

Only problem I have with Dell printers is you cannot buy ink/toner anywhere except direct from Dell at THEIR price. You can't just run out to Office Depot and get it if you run out, and you can't buy 3rd party.

HP cartridges are really expensive, and although everything else in their all in ones are good I've foudn it's printing can be a bit flaky sometimes... they often draw in more than one page, and occasionally jam.

Does anyone know if inkjet printers bad for printing out things like resumes?

They aren't necessarily bad. The newer ones produce very sharp text that approach laser printers. Is that all you will be printing?

If you will only be printing resume's and text and don't need color then a laser printer might be a better choice. If you will be printing color graphics and pictures along with text then an inkjet would be the way to go.

well resume's are my immediate need, but I've always felt constrained by not having a printer when wanting to print out tidbits of info from the net. I'm thinking laser is the way to go at this point, I don't have a digital camera or do much in the field of color photography/presentations on my pc.

would anyone be able to recommend some good non-dell laser printers? i suppose in the end, the choice isn't so obscure as there seem to be a few big names like HP, Samsung, and brother; but any input is welcome and appreciated.

In that price range, I'd get a HP laser. Samsung and Brother are essentially the same printer, they work well, but when they break, they are essentially not repairable because there are no parts available.
