Problem detecting my second hard disk

I have a new cpu and I added my old hard disk into it but it isnt detected. The new harddisk runs on S-ATA and the old one runs on P-ATA. Is it something to do with the BIOS settings? Under Integrated Peripherals? Or could I have plugged my old hard disk incorrectly?

What kind of PATA cable are you using? 40-wire 40-pin or 80-wire 40-pin? If 40-wire, you can only use the MAster/Slave settings. On an 80-wire, the 40 extra wires are for the Cable Select jumper setting, so it uses Master/Slave and Cable Select. Set it as Slave to your Master drive, if no go, try Cable Select.

Im not sure what my PATA cable is. How do I go about setting the Master/Slave settings?

Count the wires on the cable, if you get close to 20 halfway, you'll be pretty sure that it's a 40-wire PATA cable. Look for a pin header which is a set of pins on one end of the harddrive, take the plastic jumper and put it on the correct pins that enable Master or Slave on the PCB. There should be a diagram somewhere on the top of the harddrive that will give you a good idea.
