Strange problem, friend brought his PC round having problesms with floppy / optical drives, whenever he tried to access floppy or optical drive he sometimes gets a parameter error or insert disc message. Changed the ide cable connecting both optical drives no change, disconnected cd drive and floppy & DVDRW started to work. Connected another cd drive and all appeared ok. Then when i reboot i get to the BIOS screen and it cant detect drives on secondary channel and the windows logon screen goes on and on and on. I have checked device manager and all seems ok, no conflicts etc.. This PC is not on the internet. Could it be a failing M/B?

The drives could be jumpered wrong.. Did you check the jumper settings on the optical drives?? The floppy should work no matter what since it is on its' own independent channel and there is no jumper setting for those..

Only thing i did was change the existing IDE cable for a brand new one, will check in BIOS again.

That sounds logical, i'm wondering if its worth buying a new IDE controller card or just replacing the M/B.
