I want to transfer my files from one external hard drive to the other external hard drive. The computer I have right now does not have any firewire ports.

The hard drive I want to transfer my files to is a LaCie D2 extreme triple interface external hard drive. This drive has both USB 2.0 and firewire connectivity.

The hard drive I want to transfer my files from is a Maxtor external hard drive with only firewire input/output.

I know I can daisychain firewire connections. But, can I connect my LaCie drive to my new computer using USB 2.0, then daisychain the maxtor drive to the Lacie drive using firewire?

thanks all

Does the computer have USB & a firewire connection? If so, just plug the drives in that way.

you can add a pci firewire card to the computer and go from there, they are pretty cheap.

If both external drives have their own separate power sources so they don't depend on the USB for the power, I'd give it a try. If both external drives aren't recognized in My Computer, take a look in Disk Management and see if they're recognized there. You may need to assign a letter to them for My Computer to show them.
