Hello, all: I am having issues with a cd burner that wont burn: it is a sony crx230a-u... this used to work until I installed xp pro on the machine: it is an older machine (PII) that has 192 mb of ram that burned audio and vcd's with no problems: it will read cd's fine but no burn-could i have done some damage to the registry when I installed xp? I do not have the disc that came with it as it about 8 or so months old... it used to use B's recorder gold as the burning program when it did work-Thank You for any help or ideas....

What error message are you getting and what software are you currently using for burning?

Sounds like the drive may have died. It's good that burners are dirt cheap nowadays.

Maybe, but this thing will play cd's.... just wont burn-when I open B's recorder that is when it says no drive
That old software is not compatible with Windows XP. You need new one. . like Nero 5.5 or 6, for example.

If you have SP2 installed, make sure you download the updates from the Nero site to prevent conflicts.

already done got bit by that one on my othrt machine.... is loading nero on 2 machines illegal? I did buy the original version and just happened to still have install disc. would have been fine with b's recorder but apparently did irrepairable damage to that part of the registry-I don't know...works fine with nero. Thanks for everyone's help and input (you folks are 2 for 2 with my problems)
