No need to yell (all caps = yelling)
What operating sytem are you using? What is the PC make and model or specs if a custom build?
Running Windows XP. Alienware Ozma dual processor.

You say out of the blue, so I am assuming that you were not in the box itself, but it may be worthwhile to crack the case and make sure all the cables are seated well.
Have you checked for virus's etc, it could be one that is trying to make sure you do not install something to wipe it off your machine.
Do you have another PC you could temporarily put these into, no drivers would be needed- they would show up as CD only - but it would eliminate/confirm the drives them as the source of the problem.

Try replacing the IDE cable first.
Then read through this (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314096).
And then you may need to try this (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314060).
