what if i wanted a card to game with but also to do video editing? is there a card that wud be decent at both? by decent i mean medium to high settings. :)

Most any graphics card can probably handle video fine - if anything (and this being a fairly optional component), be sure to have 256MB of vRAM. What card you should get will depend on your budget.

How much are you looking to spend?
I'd say anything like a 6600gt 256mb and up would do the trick.

thanx a lot i was thinking anywhere between $100 and $250, but i dont wanna buy a more expensive card just becus i can when i dont need it so. :)

What games do you want to be able to play at "medium to high settings?" ryan is correct that a 6600 GT will play most games at those settings and would be nestled nicely in your price range. However, the 6600 GT will not play the next-gen of games (like F.E.A.R) at those settings.

The F.E.A.R. demo plays very nicely on my 6600 GT on mostly high settings.

Well, I don't know what to say. I had a 9800 Pro and on medium settings it would dip into the teens for fps very frequently. This is also what I've seen and heard from others as well. If your rig can play F.E.A.R at 1024 X 768, with all high settings and no soft shadows and no AA and not dip below 30 fps, then I'd have to see it to believe it (not that you have to prove anything to me.)

Well, being how you also want to do video editing, I would go with the ATI All-in-Wonder. If you are running Windows 98SE go with the All-in-Wonder 9600 (128 mb). I just bouht one at CompUSA for $100.00. If you are running Windows XP you can get the ATI All-in-Wonder 2006 Edition (256 mb) on ebay for about $100.00 to $150.00.

Well, not exactly. It is based off of a next-gen card, but it is a stripped down, lower pipeline card, whereas the 9800 Pro was pretty much the best of its gen. The 6600 GT is only 15-20% faster then the 9800 Pro in the 3dmark's I've seen. So yea, I'd be surprised. I have a 7800 GT which is more then a generation ahead of the 6600 GT, and it even drops into the 20's on F.E.A.R. on all high settings with 2X AA and soft shadows and V-sync.

My point to my original post was not to say that the 6600 GT is not a good card, but rather that it would struggle playing next-gen games at settings above medium. I stand by this.

ANY card that will handle gaming will handle video editing just fine. Even a $50 card will handle video editing.

I haven't actually checked the frame rates in that game but I do know that I haven't noticed any slowdowns or stuttering. As long as it appears to run smooth and I can play fine I don't care what the frame rates are.
