i even reinstall xp. i think most my games do that except for guildwars. could it be a motherboard, i don't want it to be the motherboard becuase its pretty new

Does it go away after using Windows for a short while?

What I was getting at is that after gameplay with "big" games like HL2 and DooM, things slow down for me, too, afterwards; that is until memory gets cleared and the swap file gets updated which doesn't take too long. Like if I open Windows Explorer after gameplay, it'll sit there for a while, while the drives and directories get (re)loaded up. After that, though, it will pop up at regular speed.

Just my educated guess, can not tell anything for sure without actual troubleshooting steps on the actual machine. My guesses are just where i would begin my troubleshooting steps.
