I am learning about this stuff in school, and I need to create a Mnemonic for the layers.
The layers are:
7. Application
6. Presentation
5. Session
4. Transport
3. Network
2. Date link
1. Physical

It can either start at 1 with P, or 7 with A. Thanks for the help

The layer names are useless if you do not know what they mean. I had a class where they expected an essay answer for each layer.

Then you get out in the real world troubleshooting and installing and you never again need to know the 7 layers, but it is your foundation for learning how data transmission works..

the OSI model is just a reference point, it has no bearing on, as ktkendall pointed out, installation/maintenance...

where it does come in handy is when discussing a new technology, it gives you a sense where/what the technology does.
