Hi everyone, i m new i just had a few quick questions . I am thinking about buying a hp compaq presario. Under the category of sound card it says, "ac link audio". What does this mean? Also, if it has a diagnol screen length of 15in, then what would really be the length and the width? And what does wireless LAN mean?

Welcome maila
ac link is the brand of the onboard sound card.
Wireless LAN means that the laptop is wi-fi ready. If you have high speed internet and a wireless router or access point, you will be able to access the internet on your laptop with no cords.
It should list the exact dimensions of the laptop. Would you provide a link to the website?

I have heard good things on here abotu dell latitude even my cousin say their pretty good, but i heard they break down alot. I am willing to fork out about 850 dollars for a decent laptop, but i just dont know what brand to get.

I would definitely avoid HP laptops, they're generally not good quality. Stick to Toshibas, Sagers, ASUS and Dell IMO
For $850, you should be able to get a well equipped Dell Inspiron 6000 or maybe a 600m if you look around for discount coupons. The Inspirons seem to be pretty solid, except possibly the real cheapies. I have a customer that has equipped their outside sales force with 6000's, and only one has caused any problems - the DVD drive died and Dell replaced it no questions asked.

Allright, thanks. Also what prceesor speed should be good enough. I was looking at laptops with atleast 1.2 to 2 GHz. Also, is 512 memory ok, or do i really need less ?

It really all depends on what you are going to be using the laptop for.
What are you going to be using it for?

I am a college student and i will be using to type papers, search the internet and listen to music. So if i am going to be using it for those things, what is the average amount of speed, memory, and hard drive , is recommended?

Processor speed is whatever it comes with, it shouldn't matter for those purposes. RAM just a decent amount (512 or 1GB), HDD I'd recommend 80 GB if possible... you can never have too much HDD space IMO, only too little

512 MB should be plenty.
