I'm sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but I really need some help.

I've got an old HP Pavilion N5190 Laptop which has worked fine for a long time. Although the battery life is short when it's not plugged in, it has always worked fine. I'm not sure what's going on with the thing now, but now when I start my laptop up, it runs fine for anywhere between 1 and 10 minutes and then the monitor goes black. The computer continues to run, but the screen is completely black and I lose all my work. I checked the battery life after this occurs and it is generally around 99% - 100%.

Can anyone help me with this, I have a project due wednesday and I need to use my computer and get a start on it. Thanks!

A quick workaround would be to get a regular PC monitor and hook it in for now, your display is probably shot on that laptop and will need repaired..

i tried using another moniter and the screen would appear just as on the laptop.

It works for a minute or two and then it just goes black.

if the display was shot, why does it work for a moment and then just shut off completely

Actually you just did the first troubleshooting step and proved it is in the internals of the laptop where the problem is, and not just a display screen problem. Actually it could be way more than just video adapter, it could be the processor, the memory, or the motherboard itself that is shot.. Although on laptops the video adapter is integrated on the motherboard anyways so even if it is just the graphics chip that usualy entails replacing the motherboard on a laptop anyways, or at least even if the graphics can be replaced you usually can not do it yourself and will probably need to have this laptop taken in for service repair work. With our laptop we bought the BestBuy service plan because I knew that for a good laptop it is worth it to buy the extended service plan because you can't do very much to a laptop yourself, and they are very expensive to repair..
