I installed a new 3Com Megahertz modem (model 3cxm356)on a IBM laptop (model 760 XL) running windows 98 SE. The device manager when I start the computer will identify the modem sometimes in the correct com port (2), the wrong com port or in multiple com ports. I've uninstalled the modem software and installed the latest divers but the problem still occurs. No problem with my old 28 modem. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Do I close the other com ports and if so I do I do this?
