any sites with time vs price of computer component?

Hey guys, I was wondering if any of you all have seen a site that graphed the price of a particular item over time. It would be interesting to see if there were any trends so you could plan your next purchase :).

Haven't seen anything like that. Are you looking at anything in particular?

Things like CPUs and video cards generally drop when newer versions of them are released.

RAM is another, prices start high, drop down to a low, then creep back up as supply and production drops faster than demand drops.

Problem is, it would be difficult to project because of changing technology. Discontinued memory chips have affected the memory market and changes in LCD panels have caused a decrease in their prices. Just a couple of examples.

My advice, don't wait for technology to get cheaper, because as soon as it does (whenever that is) there'll be something newer that you'll want to get instead, and then if you wait for that to drop in price....well you get in an infinite loop. So if there's something you really want, just get it. (Of course the next day it'll drop in price)

A fine example is DDR memory.

I was going to add another gig to my system of DDR PC3200, but as I learned from some of the guys here at the 'Mech - alot of companies are slowly phasing out of the production of DDR and raising the production of DDR2, which is being used more and more.

So 6 months ago, when I was going to add more memory, I though "hey! I'll just wait a couple months, and prices will start dropping"

Well when I went to crucial.com to order some more DDR, i found that the price had risen about $20, which to a 16 year old working and paying for gas (me), is also of money.

Morale: Technology is unperdictable:)
