64 bit Turion eats battery life

Just thought that I'd warn everyone that laptops with a 64 bit Turion processor just eats through your battery. I know this is common sense to most people, but I chose to ignore it when purchasing my new compaq. With everything maxed out (wifi on, full brightness, etc) I can get a maximum of 1 - 1 1/2 hours off the power cord. Oh well, live and learn I guess.

Anybody suggest ways in which I can conserve power besides the obvious ones of lowering brightness, turning wifi off, and using hibernation / sleep modes whenever possible?

The Turion has been a notorious power hog, and has been edged out even in performance by sometimes lower-clocked Pentium Ms. The battery performance has been as bad as Pentium4 laptops in my experieence. I've also found that the ATI XPRESS cards are also power hogs.
The only thing I can think of to lower power consumption other than the obvious ones is to check the fan settings and make sure that you have the fans on powersave mode as well.

Brightness is the biggest battery life affector. I've seen battery life be halved by running a laptop at full brightness rather than close to the bottom.

Not surprising. There are more distinct disadvantages to a stand-along single processor than there is to a all-in-one platform. That is why Centrino is dominating. Everything is controlled by Intel - Chipset, Processor, and Wi-Fi.

Guess I made a poor purchase. Oh well...

I like the laptop though - the poor battery life is the only con I can find with it. I didn't plan on playing games on it going in, so the fact that it does play what it does is a plus.
