i was having a problem getting the hard drive to boot, and got fed up with it, so i decided to take the whole thing apart again, but now the pc wont even switch on at all!!! i press the power button n the led's come on for a split second then nothing. i decided to take all the power, reset...etc jumpers off the motherboard, check them, n put them back on again. i turned the pc back on and it worked for about 10 seconds then smelt a really unhealthy burning smell. i know the cpu fan is crap but it works, pleez tell me i aint burnt that out? or worse?!!!

Cheap/generic power supplies are often very low quality. Yours probably just finally decided it was time to retire.

Good news would be that only your power supply got cooked. Bad news would be if it took any components with it when it sizzled. Have a look at the PSU thread in general hardware and MAKE SURE you get a new one that's on the recommended list.
