i installed cd-r on my pc with the jumper in the slave position.
my hard drive is pluged in the IDE master/primary on the motherboard.
the slave/secondary slot is where my cd rom is plug/and jumper is set to master.
i now loop my cd burner from my cd rom.
i now have a hardare conflict
hey! this is how it supposed to work as in the manual.

IDE1 (MASTER) = Hard Drive 1
IDE1 (SLAVE) = Hard Drive 2
IDE2 (MASTER) = CD-R/RW Drive
IDE2 (SLAVE) = CD-ROM Drive
What specifically is the hardware conflict? What version of Windows do you have?

Can we assume the secondary IDE controller is enabled in BIOS?
Does the CD work without the CD burner connected?

Yeap!
Never had this problem until i install the burner.
i unplug the ribbon cable and cd rom work fine.
Life without pc is not challenging!

Check all of your drive Jumpers on both CD drives to make sure they are set correctly.
Check your BIOS setting to auto-detect the Secondary IDE Channel.
Change the "Plug And Play OS" setting in your BIOS to "NO" (Or "Yes if it is already No)
If the CD works until you put the CDR on the same channel, and that knocks both drives out, you have either a bad cable, improper jumpering, or a bad CDR drive. If you are using an 80 wire IDE cable as opposed to a standard 40 wire cable, a single drive will usually work jumpered to master but with dual drives you have to use Cable Select on both and let the drive's position on the cable determine master and slave.
