My wife is getting me this monitor for xmas
gateway 21" FPD2185W
I have a radeon 9700pro and can't find any info on if I can run the native res on this monitor w/ the vid card.
1680 x 1050
I have installed the latest ati drivers (5.11)
I have googled, but no answers. I wish I could hook it up, but I have to wait for xmas.
Anybody know?

You're good to go as that resolution is well within the range of the 9700pro.
Go here and scroll down to resolutions : http://ati.com/products/radeon9700/radeon9700pro/specs.html

It's the monitors that are limited not the card.
ATI did such a great job with that card.

I'm not so sure, reading that chart. That exact resolution is not listed, it's a 16:10 monitor, not a 16:9.

I found this on Rage3D, I knew I'd seen something like this somewhere but it took me the longest time to remember where, it's from March of this year.

1680 x 1050 is supported by the Catalyst drivers but Cobra will need to use .NET and install the CCC, if he hasn't already.

I did install the ccc, but that res is not showing up. I would prefer NOT to use powerstrip.
I do not have the monitor connected right now. I had it connected vga just to test it, but I did not see that res either, but since I have upgraded to the 5.11 cat drivers, but am not able to hook the monitor up until xmas. :(
Just wanted to be ready, and I do have a dvi cable for it now.
WOuld the ati software recognize the monitor and it's resolution?
I know elementary question, but I have been running a 19" crt for years and this is my first lcd, so I am an lcd noob.
thx all for the input. But I am still not sure.

There's no getting around the fact that it requires the monitor.
I'm going to toddle off to RAge3d and post the question.
I should have your answer in a few days since I'm willing to be someone has done it.
