I just built myself a new computer, and everything seemed to be running fine until I started to play games. A few minutes into a graphics-heavy game and the computer would do an automatic reboot. Suspecting the video card, which is an eVGA GeForce 6600 GT PCIE, I opened the case and watched the card as I played World of Warcraft. It turned out that right up until the reset, the cooling fan on the card never turned on. I checked the site, and apparently the card is NEVER supposed to be off. The fan itself spins freely, even with only the force of my blowing on it. The power cable from the fan to the video card looks intact and is well seated. So now I am left adrift; there is little point to this computer if I cannot play games on it, and without the fan, all games do it overheat the card. Why would the fan not be running? What can I do to fix it?

If you can't get your money back for a new one for some reason, you can buy a $20 VGA heatsink from newegg that includes a rather huge copper heatsink, copper heat spreaders for the chips and a large fan that draws power from the motherboard instead of its own power fan connection on the video card. My brothers both had problems with their 9800 and 6800GT, this has fixed their problems.

RMA the card.
They owe you a new one.
Don't mess with it or you'll void the warranty.

I agree. RMA the card or try to get your $$ back if it is a recent purchase. I know several people who have had issues with eVGA fans going south. If you can get your $$ back go ASUS or Gigabyte for the 6600GT.
