Pls recommend a 17" or 19" LCD monitor?

H I am about to buy my litle guys a LCD for their PIII PC. Can U pls suggest a good bang for the buck. Their ages are 6 to 11. So they aren't going to be noticing a realll 'crisp' pci over a bad one.

On the other hand, I would like to know what is a good monitor that will not cost an arm and a leg, but is dependable / releiable etc etc..

A 15" lcd probably be OK for the kids. Viewsonic,NEC are good brands. The LG units I've seen in stores look good and at a good price. A 15" seems to run about $150 to $190, maybe higher in a store.

I just bought that Acer for my girlfriend on Newegg. It's cheaper on Tigerdirect but only after a mail-in rebate, whereas Newegg's rebates are instant. Actually, it also has a mail-in rebate on it for 15 dollars I think. Not the point though, the point is I've heard Acer makes excellent LCDs that don't cost a ton.

Keep in mind that if the PC can only handle 1024x786 or around there, you may want something with a DVI output. I've heard that RGB/D-Sub output only looks clear at native resolution 1280x1024. I haven't recieved mine, so I don't know how bad it is but some people can't stand it.

Isn't it that the actual companies that make these monitors, aren't necessarily the one(s) that manufactured them?

I know from the CRT days that only a handful of companies make picture tubes, but when u are looking for a CRT monitor there are a whole load of em available.

I agree it probably wouldn't matter for the kids if it was something like a 15" but if you're ever going to be using this i will say i love my 19" samsung 915n it was a little expensive costing me 300 after a rebate but it was worth it.

I have to agree with that Samsung is very very good and for a good price too if you have a bigger pockets would recommend the SONY:)

I know you're looking for a smaller one, but I just bought my Samsung 940B 19" LCD last week and all I can say is WOW! Great monitor, no dead pixels, very adjustable and DVI to boot. For a quality smaller monitor, Samsung, Acer and Viewsonic would be great starting points. You might even consider spending another $20-30 and moving them up to 17". A couple slightly bigger monitors like that would be maybe a better longer term investment. JMO.

A cheapie from Acer, Viewsonic, NEC, or Samsung should do the job for long enough until you buy a you beaut new system
