HighPoint HPT372 RAID drive failed

Have a Soyo Dragon with HighPoint HPT372 RAID, 4 DW 120's. The secondary slave failed (makes loud clicking sound).

Message said to replace the failed drive. Did that. Replaced it with an identical WD 120.

Next message said to, destroy the RAID 0/1, Hide the broken array and continue to boot, Chose replacement drive and rebuild. (Sounds simple enough.) So I Clicked on destroy RAID 0/1. That's where I am now, lost. I don't see an option to hide the broken array in the HighPoint utility. Don't see an option to rebuild either. Help me all-knowing computer gods.

Guess I really messed that up. Is there any way to recover?

I think I have the array restored after duplicating the new drive. It shows all four drives now, the primary master as boot and the other three hidden.

I get as far as "Verifying DMI pool data." "Error loading operating system..."

I tried booting from the XP CD (Changed the boot order to CDROM) but it gave the same result.

Any thought on where to go now?

When you booted with the XP CD, did you press F6 and load the HPT RAID driver?

Hi glc,

Yes, I did press F6, but nothing happened (and no, I'm not using a usb keyboard) and setup could not detect any hard drives.
I think I was able to load the HPT driver using the Windows XP boot floppies, but setup still could not detect any drives.

Now I have formatted all 4 drives, follow the Soyo instructions and made sure RAID is enabled in the bios, SCSI is the first boot device. Then I go into the HPT setup utility to create the array. I can select the type of array (0/1), I can name it, I can select the cluster size, but I cannot select the drives. When I select create it tells me there is a valid partition and asks if I want to proceed. When I select (Y) Yes it hangs up and I cannot exit the setup utility.

Formatted the drives again, this time erased the volume labels, and the drivers loaded. :D :confused: :D :D

"Mine is not to question why" Mine is just happy I have a computer again. :D
