I have a NEC 3500A DVD burner. I was reading the instructions concerning updating the Firmware. It says that these programs, Intel Ultra -ATA Storage Driver and Intel Application Accelerator MUST be removed first, by going to Add / Remove programs etc. When I go to Add / Remove programs etc. I do not see anything about that Ultra -ATA Storage Driver, but I do have a program called Intel Graphics Media Accelerator. Is this the same program that I need to remove first, before I try any firmware updates ?

Why do you want to do a firmware update?, unless you are having problems they are not always neccessary.

i usually shut down antivirus programs and other programs running. then I run the program, in your case its in windows, and and it usually works ok. don't do anything during the flashing process.

I believe they allow you to use more types of media. I originally bought a 50 pack of Sony discs, but the burner would not recognize them. I then bought a pack of Verbatim, and all was well. Just thought it would be a good idea to get the latest firmware update.

Thanks tempus for reminding me about shutting down the AV. Would have forgot about that.

FYI--I have sucessfully updated the firmware without removing those two programs.

the 3500 should like all kinds of media...? I have the 3500A and It has burned anything I throw at it...

Sony 8x's revision 2.0 will burn at 16x's for me...so....verbatim is what I normally buy ....never updated the firmware...
