I need a job...

I'm 17 and I'm about to start my 7-week long summer holidays. I'm not going anywhere, so I figure now would be the best time to get a job. :rolleyes: Any suggestions? I really like being involved with computers, like building and helping people out with them, and I'm rather skilled. There were some jobs at a local computer shop, but it was just to act as a bookie for their LAN section for like minimum wage, so...any suggestions?

My strategy was driving around and applying everywhere that was hiring. You may get called for an interview or you may not but the important this is to not get discouraged - especially with the holiday season here (almost every store is hiring extra help).

But if you wanted to work at a PC repair place or even Best Buy/CompUSA in thier computer department, it's kind of hard to get hired without having a certification, like A+.

You could try putting out business card with your name to try and get a PC-Building company started.

If you're willing to trade money now for more money later, you could call up some of the computer technicians you find in the phone book and offer yourself as an apprentice/assistant (for little or no pay).
after that you will be able to offer your services throughout the year (and for many years to come) to all the students (and their family and friends) in your school who have computer trouble.
As an insider (student or former student) you should have the edge on getting clients. Charge less than the "experts" and build a reputation ("honest" is usually the best name you can build for yourself, second comes "expert").

What I was thinking about was advertising custom made computers on a local auction website, and then once someone orders one I actually make the thing.

What are your other interests?Erm, computers take up probably 90% of my interests. :( If it had to be anything else I'd say cars, movies, boy stuff :p

BR, why not work at the local computer shop for the minimum wage doing what they ask?? You never know, that might lead to opportunities to do other stuff for them if you do a good job, it could be a test of your professionalism.

When you apply for those jobs, call them as much as you can to check on the status of your application. Some employers will not give you the job or an interview until they see persistence. Persistence is the key. Trust me, it WORKS.
