i bought my vid card thinking it could handle most, knowingly not all, of the new grafix out. so why is it that i cant turn up settings in games, like textures and filtering, with out really bad chugging and studders? is it my card? or could it be the amount of ram, cpu, mobo?

What card do you have? Is this the rig in your sig?

Filtering, resolution, and anti-aliasing all have a huge impact on performance.

I have the same card with a slower system. It has run all of the games I have thrown at it without problems. I can turn most games up to the max with 2x AA and 4x AAF. I have to turn off soft shadows in F.E.A.R. (don't most people?) but Far Cry, Doom III, Half Life 2, AOE III, and all of my other games run perfectly at the highest settings.

You would probably benifit greatly from another 512 MB or RAM. I went from 512 to 768mb and it made quite a difference in performance.

Hi Ho, i have a 6800GT overclocked a little bit and in AoEIII i still get a stutter. for instance, when moving around the map is jumps. i thought it was graphics related, but when i turned all settings to lowest the same thing happens.

I think more RAM would help both of you.

well i think im getting 2 gigs of ram for christmas, and it appears that loc has 2 gigs and his is studdering... i will see if the ram helps in this area, once i open it. now if i did put more ram, and i still get this problem, what would you think the cause is? and ive been tweaking the settings, and i get decent performance by turning off the aa and turning up the aaf with a higher res. but studdering still acurs...

1 gig will do just fine but 2 gigs is great.
