Hi guys. I have a real pickle here. I filmed a friend's wedding for him and I am trying to get it put on a DVD. I have edited the video and rendered it to MPEGII format. I then try to use MyDVD to burn it onto a DVD. Everything appears to go just fine, but when I play the DVD in the computer, the DVD player, or whatever, all it plays is a bunch of blurred horizontal lines. I really need to figure this problem out soon, so if anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate it!

P.S.
I am using NTSC just so you know.

Hi,

before importing the MPEG to MyDVD, can you play it fine on the computer ?

How long does MyDVD take till it's finished ?

Howdy RJ,
Yes the MPEG plays fine before I make a DVD out of it. My DVD takes quite a long time to finish. The longest portion is the "Transcoding Video", which I would guess takes an hour and a half by it self. Quite slow.

There's a similar thread here that may prove useful: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=148115

Could it be a software issue maybe? I have also tried re-installing My DVD too and it does the same thing.

It's very likely a software issue. MyDVD shouldn't transcode anything.

How big is the MPEG file ? Would it fit on a DVD without transcoding ?

How did you copy it to hard drive, and how did you encode it to MPEG-2 ?
Also, what format is the audio ?

The only time MyDVD will transcode anything is if the audio/video codec is not DVD compliant. So I'm with RJ - how did yo uencode to MPEG-2 and what format is the audio?

Cool! Maybe you guys are on to something! I made the video using Video Explosion Deluxe. In the "Make Movie" screen, I selected MPEG II as the format for the video to save to. When it is done, the video plays fine on the computer. However, once I use My DVD to put it on a disk with menus, it won't play right on anything. I have tried it in several different DVD players and a couple of computers and it does the exact same thing on all of them.

Is it possible that I could be setting something incorrectly when I make the MPEG file with Video Explosion?

OK, now I have tried a different authoring program, DVDit!, and it just makes coasters. Still no progress. I was thinking it might be my burner, but if it was it seems to me like My DVD wouldn't burn anything. I'm not sure where to go frome here.

Hm. I've used DVDit! some years ago (probably a different version). Though using it was a pain, the resulting DVD played in the DVD players.

Anyway, I don't know Video Explosion Deluxe. . I don't know what it does, and how it does things.

I'd try the following, just to test if the MPEG file itself is fine.

Use Muxman (http://www.mpucoder.com/Muxman/) for authoring. You can't do any menus and stuff. . it just converts the MPEG to VOB so you can burn them. It does its job well, so use it for the test to rule out authoring problems.
Then, use ImgTool Classic (http://www.coujo.de/ib2/index.php?act=module&module=include&incl_name=download) (you have to scroll down a bit till you find it. The newest version is 0.91.6) to create an Image, and use ImgBurn (www.imgburn.com) to burn the image. Don't burn faster than 4x.

I'd also use an RW for that, if your players can handle them.

Also what blanks do you use ? You can use DVD Identifier (http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/) to find out the Manufacturer ID.

Thanks a lot! I'll give it a shot.
