Hi everybody

I recently installed a 384/128 DSL connection at home and i'm facing the following issue. :
I have a laptop computer which connects perfectly with the dsl and has no problem at all . On the other hand , my brother uses a desktop computer which has the exact same settings as the laptop , but is unable to connect to the internet ( even when connected to the modem with the same cable and on the same modem port that the laptop does - -the laptop is then of course off ).

Both firefox and explorer show the same message

"www.google.com (e.g) not found"

I have the same antivirous and firewall installed on both computers.

I tried the following on the desktop computer and here are the results :

ping 127.0.0.1 replies ok!

ping 192.168.0.1(modem IP) does NOT reply!

I tried manual and automatic DNS , i tried manual and DHCP IP for the pc but nothing changed.

The modem is an Intracom NetRoute2 model

Any help would be appreciated

Sorry for the poor English

Thanks a lot for your time

Try restarting the modem. Let it sit for about 30 seconds first, though. Might just need cooling down.

Sounds like the network adapter in the desktop is defective or the drivers aren't properly installed - or the patch cable is bad. It might also need a winsock reset -
