Router causing slow download from my ftp?

I host an ftp server from my computer so i can access my files from anywhere when i might need them.. I use BulletProof FTP

I used to use a D-link router, and everything ran fine. The FTP server would upload files at normal speed.

However, now i'm using a netgear router, and i've notice that when i try to access my ftp, it's very slow. when i try to download files, they transfer goes at about 1KB/Sec while it should be going 40-50KB/Sec.

I've read that it could be an MTU setting somewhere that i need to set, but the router is set to 1500, so it seems fine since i'm using cable (comcast).

Any help is greatly appreciated :-D

OH! One thing i forgot to mention is that if i were to upload a file to some other site, or to a friend, the speed is normal (around 40KB/sec).

You need to configure BPFTP Server for passive transfers and forward the appropriate ports in the router. You then need to configure the FTP clients for passive.

I'd also make sure you have the latest firmware in your Netgear - they are notorious for having strange issues.

ok... i forwarded the proper ports for passive.. and my internet browser/client are set to passive and i still get slow upload speeds.. i didn't have this problem while using my d-link router, and i would go back, but the wireless is nice..

I also updated my firmware and did not notice an improvement. Now i've noticed that my wireless connections with the several laptops in my house drop occasionally. This, however, could be a conflict with the neighbor's router, since it is constantly showing up.

Try changing your router channel to channel 1 or channel 11 instead of the default channel 6. Get rid of your 2.4 GHz cordless phones if you have any.
