As of 3 days ago when my computer is starting up a blank black screen with only a flashing line cursor in the upper left hand corner appears and lasts for 5minutes until the computer finally is started up and ready to use. I run windows xp and have not installed or done anything different to it. Why is this happening and how do I fix it?? Thank you!

A similar thing happened to me once and it ended up being because I was really really close to running out of Hard Drive Space, so for some reason that made it harder for windows to start up. I finally fixed it by deleting some files in DOS mode. Could that be the problem?

Is this a factory built pc or a home build? Please supply some hardware specs.

That's the kind of comment that will get you banned from here in a heartbeat. You need to reread the Forum Rules. We don't tolerate flaming of any kind here. And this isn't a chat room. You need to be patient to get an answer.

Red's right, be cool... The answer may not come for a bit because there are some many other threads that people look at and it takes time to get the troubleshooting a rolling to this one. There's one thing you have to remeber, all this info at your finger tips, is free (well, for now)...

The more details you provide, the quicker you are going to get a response. None of us have the ability to look through the internet and see your computer.

The easy thing to do is do a system restore back to a date before the problems started. I assume you have done full malware scans?
