WoW freezing question

I have a HP 1.8 ghz, 1gb RAM, 256mb nvidia graphics card computer. It came with 512 mb of RAM and I added a second stick and replaced the video card and replaced the 200 watt PSU with a 350 watt power supply. I have a problem playing World of Warcraft in that as soon as the game comes on it'll totally freeze my computer. Some times it takes a few seconds, and then at other times the game plays just fine for hours at a time. I can't even ctrl alt delete or anything. I have to hard start the comp in order to get it to do anything at all. I've scanned for spyware, bought a new virus protection, and defragged the comp. Could it be a software issue that's freezing my computer? And if so do I have to reinstall the game and windows or what? Any advice would be appreciated.

Well, I don't really have advice, except to tell you that I too have a problem with the game freezing, though it only happens to me when I log out every once in a while. What's your internet connection? Some people in my guild that are playing on dial-up say they crash whenever the latency gets too high (1200-2000, basically unplayable). I know my problem lies with my video card, but I really have no idea what could be wrong with yours if it freezes at startup. Very unfourtunate considering it costs freaking $15 bucks a month.

I have a cable connection and my latencey is usually around 177.

We had a similar problem with my Son's computer (HP Pavilion) when he tried to play Counterstrike Source. I had added a stick of memory to bring it to 1Gb. We fought the problem for some time and I finally gave up, and upgraded by adding a new mobo and PCI-E x 16 video card. To our dismay the problem still existed though not as bad. The real fix was to remove the extra stick of ram. He can now play for hours with no problems.

To make a long story short....try removing the extra ram to see if the problem goes away. If so then the extra stick may not be compatible with the original ram.

i suggest you run a memory test. bad ram could be your problem. and depending on what the problem is with it it is possible for this to happen only when your ram is maxxed out. there are multiple memory test programs listed on this site.

i had the same problem but not with wow... it was my memory. i got some new sticks and everything was straightened out immediately
