Memory upgrade not worth it?

Yo, I recently upgraded from 1 gig to 2 gigs of RAM with this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820223021). Now, web sites do seem to load quicker but I was hoping to get more of a performance upgrade out of my games. Really, the computer seems to handle graphics the same as before, and with this stick installed, I even get a lower score on one of my game's benchmark programs. I was wondering if maybe having two sticks of 512 and a stick of 1 gig might be the source of the problem, although I dunno. All three sticks are PC 2700. Oh, the mobo has three slots for RAM, incase you're wondering. It's the rig in my sig.

no, I don't think thats a problem, but sometime mixing two differant types of ram could do that, but not saying that is what you have,

it don't fit you problem but increasing the ram that much would show a better increase in performance if you had a motherboard and a cpu that supported hyper threading, but don't quote me on that.

on a system like yours, I don't think you will see much increase in performance once you go over 1 gig.

PC2700 is what's holding you back. You need PC3200 to run synchronous with your processor.

I bet you'd see a performance increase in Battlefield 2 and other newer games that use tons of memory. For older ones though, you won't notice a difference because they never overflow onto your extra 1GB. XP never really approaches filling your first 1GB, so I'd venture to guess that websites loading faster is just your imagination.:D

RAM upgrades won't give you a huge performance boost unless you have little to begin with (512MB to 1GB for instance, you would notice a big difference). Most programs these days are pretty happy with 1GB; newer games (in the last 1 year) can appreciate 2GB though.

glc is right, you should see if you can send back the 1 gig stick, and get a gig of DDR 400. I just built a pc last week using the Athlon 64 3000 Venice, gave it 2 x 512 of Kingston value DDR 400. Runs very nice.

I also have an Athlon 3000 Barton with DDR 400. Don't see any reason to go over 1 gig.

If you don't like Kingston take a look at the Corsair value select.

I was wondering if i should upgrade past one gig, i dont think im going to spend money on it now, but i was wondering with your computer, on your mobo does it say in the manual how much maximum ram it can handle, is it possible that you've exceeded the limit thats why the difference is so small? :confused:

That board handles up to 3 gigs.
