Hi folks

How can I tell the largest size hard drive I can install in a system with these specs?

Software check results are as follow...

AMIBIOS ROM Size: 256KB
Motherboard Manufacturer Code Detected: 1437 - Hsing Tech Enterprise Co., Ltd.
AMIBIOS Build Tag: 001_01_M598LMR

SMBIOS info:
Manufacturer: PCCHIPS
Product Name: M598LMR
Version: 1.0
Serial Number: 00000000

I tried a 200GB WD but system hangs on Auto-Detect...

Thanks for any help
Dave

Probably 32 gigs. Maybe 137 gigs. Definitely nothing bigger than that.

Thanks GLC

The drive in question had a primary partition of 137GB but was not detected. Even when set for a lesser amount.

BIOS is set to auto. Tried all jumper settings.

Drive works ok in my other system.

Already checked with mfg and they said the bios was proprietary and they told me who to contact for drivers so I contacted them and got all the latest drivers.

Thanks for any other help

Dave

The only way around it that I know of is a PCI IDE controller card. You could use the cylinder limitation jumper and EZ-Bios if it's Win9x/ME, but that's a lousy way of doing it.

Here's a decent card that's affordable:

Thanks for the link
