How to setup a wireless network using service pack 2

I click on setup a wireless network for a home or office and I got to the part where you could either plug the thumbdrive into a wireless access point but I chose to do it manually and it gave me the settings but I have no clue how to put them in.

I am using a WRT54G under windows xp home and I first clicked on wireless network setup wizard under control panel. Then I click setup a new wireless network then I had I typed in an SSID then I had clicked automatically assign a network key then I had checked the box Use WPA encryption instead of WEP. Then when the next screen came up I had chose to do it manually instead of plugging my thumbdrive into my wireless access point. But I have no clue where to input the information

I've had nothing but headaches using the Wireless Wizard. I use the regular Home Network Wizard instead. You can manually configure the router without all that usb drive nonsense.

Can I also encrypt the wireless network in anyway after I am finished with the network setup wizard.

Sure, just log into the router and configure the wireless in there.

How would I setup the wpa-psk encryption on a wireless network using a wrt54g if possible can you provide step by step instructions.

I'm gonna let someone more knowledgeable than me answer that one. I know how to set up the WEP but I haven't used the wpa encryption. I suspect they're about the same but there's some really good networking gurus here that will surely answer this.

Same way, just choose WPA-PSK instead of WEP and make up a passphrase of at least 8 letters/numbers. The router's interface is friendly enough you should have no problem finding it.

Under the wireless tab then under wireless security then when I click on security mode I now have WPA2 personal then for the WPA shared key would I type in a combo of 8 letters and numbers. Then for the assoication tab for my wireless network for the network Authentication do I have to have WPA2 show up then would I have to type a network key or would the passphrase I setup in the router config screen encrypt the wireless network.

Is your client adapter WPA2 compatible? If so, just use the same key (passphrase) you put in the router.

I don't know my wireless adapter card I am using is a LAN-Express AS IEEE 802.11g miniPCI Adapter and if WPA2 will not work can you tell me how to setup WPA encryption.

The EXACT SAME WAY. Match the card settings to the router settings. Same type of encryption, same passphrase or key. It is REALLY that simple. Doesn't matter if it's 64 bit WEP, 128 bit WEP, WPA, WPA2 - match the type and keys.
