View Full Version : This is getting rediculous...

I have been playing Call of Duty: United Offensive multiplayer a lot lately. Well, I've been trying. The problem is that, say, 90% of the servers I attempt to join say "Sorry, this server is for low ping players only". I do have low ping. My ping for each server is aroun 50, none going over 100. I consider anything under 200ms to be just fine. Are people setting their ping limits at 40 or is something else wrong here?
I have an uncapped cable internet connection that tests at over 10Mb/sec down and over 4Mb/sec up. My connection is not the problem.
There are only a few servers that I can actually get into. If they are full, I'm out of luck. This is becoming very annoying.

Do you run any hardware or software firewalls?

I only have my router. I have the Windows firewall on, that's it.

The thing is, I don't think it's actually my ping. As I said, my average ping is around 50ms (it is shown for each server in the server browser). After checking, I see that I have the Windows firewall turned off.

Do you have the game fully updated?
In your multiplayer options there should be an option for Auto Downloads. You need to turn that on.

Auto downloading is on and the game is fully up to date. Sorry to keep shooting down all this advice. :o I'm still at a total loss here though.

You know it could be kicking your cd key (though I don't know why that would merit your particular warning). I had the same problem with my HL2. My copy was legit (bought it at eb games) but it told me its cd key was invalid. I had to return it for another copy.
The above was a guess. I feel that it's more of your router's fault than anything else. Do you have the appropriate port opened? I know you usually do that in order to host a game, but it could be a problem in this case. You said you don't have this problem with playing any other games online, right?

It's a little late for a CD key problem. I've had the game for a while. I haven't always had this problem. It is recent. I don't know what port COD uses. It does not happen with any other game.

I don't mean cd key for letting you play the game, I mean a valid cd key to get into servers. That's how admin regulate their servers - when you get permanently banned, they ban your cd key. If somebody used your cd key (through a cd generator) and goofed around, then you might have problems.
It would have to be personal admin regulation since a patch with punkbuster has not been released yet.
