View Full Version : dual boot
I had W98 on my C drive and W2K on D, and after i reformatted the D drive, i still get the OS choice menu at startup. How do i get rid of it and simply have W98 boot up? thanks.
Boot with a Win 98 system floppy, and type FDISK /MBR at the A: prompt. Delete boot.ini from C:\ .
I can't find boot.ini, not even with "find file"...?
Set Explorer to view all files, including system and hidden files, and set it to NOT hide extensions for known file types, and you should find boot.ini in the root of c:\ .
ok now i see the file is in c:\ but still, it won't show up when i boot from DOS and i can't delete it..
Guess what, i changed the primary network logon to windows logon, and no more dual boot screen at startup.
Duh! now on the second re-boot, the dual boot screen re-appeared. Your help/patience is appreciated
Can't you delete it from Windows Explorer?
yeah -- i was just following you step-by-step..
ok i deleted it from windows, and after i rebooted it said <windows 2000 root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe is missing and i had to re-install win98 again
Sorry about that - I should have added that after you boot with the 98 system disk you need to do both FDISK /MBR and also SYS C:
