I was just over at The Elder Scrolls site and the release date for Oblivion is going to be March 20, 2006.
If you need to save up the cash start now.:)

Thanks for the heads up. I have been waiting for this for a while.

I read that too, but it's not official yet. A couple of previews stated March 20, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Feb 1st. The previews also had a few other details wrong, so, maybe they were wrong? A fool's hope, I'm sure...
PS
Some of the people on the Oblivion forums might have rabies. If you go over there, make sure you vaccinations are up to date. :p

Wouldn't it be exciting if everyone thought it were the 20th and then the night before the 1st, stores magically popped them on the shelves - I know a secret like that would never work, too many people would know for it to work, but it would be pretty surprising.

I just bought another gig of ram for that game. Let's hope I can at least play on medium graphics.

Yeah, if it's February, we could still get a snowstorm here in North Carolina. I can see it now... "Oh no! It's snowed all night and I can't go to work! Oh well, I guess I'll just have to stay home and get aquainted with the sequel to Morrowwind."

Amazon has just graced the game with it's official "New Arrival" sticker, so the date's the real thing ( Of course if I could get my hands on a copy by 2/1:D :D :D ).

You're joking, right?
An X850, 2GB ram and an overclocked Athlon 64 3000+ and you're talking about medium settings?
I know all about warding off the evil eye and foiling the tech gremlins, you wouldn't want to attract their attention by boasting about your specs:p , but this carries superstition too far!

Haha, well, if FEAR is any indication that my computer isn't the fastest, I'm sure Oblivion will be a slap in the face.

Seeing as how FEAR has been bringing all computers, barring those 4800+, sli jobs, to their knees you'll just have to endure with the rest of us.:D

Yeah, I had a weird issue with FEAR. I run it smooth on Alta (I have the spanish version, so I don't know exactly what it is called in the english version, but that means HIGH detail) but when I go to update it like I am prompted, after the update all hell breaks loose in all my games, and everything just turns into having wicked fuzzy static patches. I fixed it by not installing the update - but it was a weird issue.

Yep. I wasn't one to ask questions... I just went along with the ride for about .2 seconds then decided to scratch the whole update and went back to the basics. I think a corrupted DirectX9 came along with the update that messed things up. System restore and 15 minutes of my time and I was back to the beginning. However, new SLI drivers will be out soon, so I can wait for those to update, then try updating FEAR again.

Don't be so sure. Look at the outdoor detail in Far Cry. That game ran smooth as teflon on my old system at medium, and on my new comp it is just as smooth at Very High with AA and looks absolutely eye-popping. I know its not the same thing and an older game, but the amount of trees and plants looks similar. Good coding can make huge differences.

Very true. I don't know. I guess we'll wait and see on the requirements. They should release something about it soon if the game is windowed for March. I think it's going to be around 1.8ghz, 512 ram, and a 128mb graphics card.

I run FarCry with all the eye candy, and while the graphics are nice, I am not super impressed. I notice lack of texture on the water and stuff. After I patched however it looked much much better. I recomend anyone who plays FarCry to patch, not only did the graphics improve, but I think details like run speeds were increased. Anyway, it is a very good game I have yet to finish playing (darn FEAR and CoD2).

I am not doubting it to be similar to that.

It was about a year ago when I read one of the developers saying that they wanted a game anyone who could run HL2 should be able to run.
Don't know if that's what they'll be delivering, what with comments about including dual-core support, but that was the stated intention then.

Yeah, the dual core comment made me worry more about the advanced AI than the graphics in terms of sys resource hogging.

Kotor was fun but I didn't like the turn based attacks. Then Morrowind came along...I've been playing until 3am every night over break. I'm going to try to finish the main quest by March.

Just read the news that the 16 square mile world of Oblivion will be packed on 1 "disc". Has to be DVD, good news for us all.

Agreed.
Now I get to find out if my "old but reliable" DVD drive needs to be replaced.

Though I am fine having it all on DVD, I hope they release a CD version so some of my friends without DVD drives can play it too (without hanging at my house 24/7)

Haha, that would suck. Although, this news from IGN might keep it from CD:
Due to the game's size, there were many rumors floating around that TESIV was going to be released on four separate discs. In case you didn't already know, this is not true. According to an official post on elderscrolls.com, TESIV is going to ship on only one disk, which is great news for anyone pulling their hair out over the prospect of having to negotiate multiple disc switches during gameplay.
"negotiate multiple disc switches during gameplay": This sounds like, even though the cd part is not true, the game doesn't install all data to the hard drive, but also relies on loading data from the disc in game.

Yup, which will suck
I didn't like the original games, I preferred the control for Sacred over Morrowind, which I found cumbersome

I wouldn't count on it. It would be ridiculous not to give users the option to take advantage of their large harddrive. Seems like most every gamer has at least 80GB these days.

Hey Jaggannath, if the release date for Oblivion is March 20, I might have to try that Sacred. Anyone know if its better than Dungeon Siege 2?
Jaggannath

Afraid I don't know Arthur, I haven't played Dungeon Siege... Sacred was very good though, the first one I've ever played. It has pretty good playability, as you can follow the plot or choose not to, and it very slightly varies per character
