Hello,

Due to to power surges in a row, my IBM hard disk has developed 57344 bytes of bad sectors. I ran NDD and scandisk and they were marked as bad. When I try to make an image of the hard disk with Norton Ghost, this error appears: Bad blocks encountered on read: 0X80, drive:128, 64 sectors starting from absolute sector 7653565. I checked he option of 'force cloning' in case there are bad clusters, but this error appears and the program freezes.

Any help appreciated.

If you are simply trying to clone the drive to a new one, you will have the best luck with xxcopy from www.xxcopy.com . It's not a sector by sector copier - its a file copier.

Are you sure that the program is frozen and just not taking a very long time to go past the bad sectors. Worst case I ever had was leaving an old JTS drive run overnight to complete the cloning process. When I got to work in the morning, it was just finishing.

Hello,

I defragmanted the hard disk and the problem was gone, it appears there was some reference of the sectors and files that were in the location Ghost reported the problem.

Thanks for the replies.
