Windows ME Slow Down

All of a sudden ME has started running very slow. I checked the system Monitor and the Kernel processor usage is over 100%! I am running a PIII 450 with 256MB 100/133 SDRAM. I have run Mcafee and didn't find anything. I ran the system information and checked the tasks running and all looks ok except I find 3 instances of Kernel32.dll running at the same time. Can't seem to figure out if this id correct, or how to limit the systen to only start this dll once?
