HI i have just built a buget pc for a friend and basiclly i used some of my old componets from past pc's eg ;gigabyte M/B, athlonxp 2800+ cpu ,2x256mb ram ,40mb western digital H/D ,a new 6600gt agp G/Card and a downloaded version of xp.
All is well and works as it should but when the start up screen comes up
u-know the back screen with the text of what cpu and hard drives are listed there is a text that says "80 conducter cable not installed" anyone know what this means and how to correct this .
It would be nice if i can get this cleared up
many thanks

Install an 80 conductor cable, or I think if you have the drives jumpered to Cable Select and are using a 40 conductor cable you'll get that error. Make sure the hard(s) are set to master (for the OS drive) and slave (if applicable, ie a storage drive).

It means there is a 40 wire IDE cable being used where a 80 wire IDE cable should be.
