Has anyone had this problem with newegg. I bought a video card from them (new retail). I opened the outer shipping box only to discover that the video card box was open and the instead of the card being in the anti-static bag it was in bubble wrap. In fact it was so obviously opened that the disk and all the cords fell out of the retail box and were in the outer shipping box. I RMAed it and am waiting for a new one(it didnt work in my new build).

Maybe NewEgg's golden days are in the rearview mirror.

I even talked to a customer service rep on the phone about my concerns with the open package and she completly blew me off

Did you buy the OEM version of the card? If so, that might be how the ship it. Just a thought...................

eVGA 256-P2-N386 Geforce 6800GS 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail

This is from the invoice I would post a link, but for some reason I cant find the card on newegg anymore

It wasn't a refurb was it? Of course, I don't think those come with the extras.

flawedreality5

Yeah. The rep I recently talked to on the phone about my problem sounded burnt out and needed a vacation.

TwoRails

I'm thinking like blue60007 here. It might have been a refurb. I have in the past gotten into a hurry and accidentally clicked on a refurb unit but caught the mistake before the purchase. I'm sure it was not anything deliberate on Newegg's part.

Eriol
01-14-2006, 12:12 PM
I suppose that might be a possibility, but I really thought it was new. And its wierd that the product is no longer on newegg

flawedreality5
01-14-2006, 12:25 PM
That sounds like a refurb then. Or maybe it's out of stock?

Eriol
01-14-2006, 11:52 PM
I still think I bought the new one and they sent me an open one. Even if I did buy a refurb, which I dont think I did, it still should have been better protected so that all the parts didnt fall out of the retail box into the shipping box.(especially with electronics)

Post on resellerratings.com with your thoughts. Their exec support guy monitors that very closely, and will do just about anything to get you to change their rating back to very good.

I've never had a problem with them, or their customer service. However, if they aren't willing to help through normal means, play hardball and talk to exec support. They'll get it taken care of.

Eriol

thanks for the advice, i think Im going to do that. I bought other stuff from them before and was extremly happy, so I was just suprised this time.

flawedreality5
01-15-2006, 12:16 AM
Same with me. I bought every part for my computer when I was building it off there and had no problems what so ever. I was even willing to pay the NJ tax for everything because I heard such good things about them and their service. Everything got here a day early and in perfect condition. I don't know if they're beat from Christmas season right now, in the middle of doing inventory or what, but I hope they get back on track.

I *think* that most places use the term "refurb" too loosely and that the term also includes "open box" items. I've purchased only one "refurb" item from Newegg and it was Not a refurb but an open box item. The "refurb" monitor even had hand prints all over it and was not packaged very well.

Also, with the thousands of orders a day (hundreds, at least), it's not humanly possible to be perfect, whether it's Newegg or another company. Even with an occasional screwup, Newegg's rating is very high and above "average."

With all due respect, you chose the power supply - the fact that it is crap is your problem. And also, if the motherboard is crap, you picked it too. Don't blame newegg for your buyer choice. Sorry.

I'm not sure what the heck is going on at Newegg. I normally have excellent service from them. 2 weeks ago I purchased 10 monitors from them for my clerical area at work. I had my purchasing group order from Newegg it was like pulling teeth to get them to confirm our order. Then I ordered a wireless card and an access point from them over a week ago I still am waiting for it.

I guess I'm just a little disappointed. In the past I would only buy from them. Now I will probably not be so quick to order from them.

Wow, another bad story. I think they underestimated the Christmas season and were understaffed or something or having problems with their ordering system.

kstatefan40
01-16-2006, 11:05 PM
No, i don't think its the season. I've ordered lots of stuff over the last two months - probably 5 different orders to me, and 5 to others.

The deal with them and their order verification is based on the credit card company. They are very strict about privacy and authenticity. Things have to line up perfectly for them to do anything on the first order, and if its not, they will call your credit card company themselves and have them authorize it. I don't find this foolish - I find it very safe.

You can go into your account history at newegg.com after you log in and you will be able to see if it was a refurb or retail.

I bought the exact same card last week. Mine was also in bubble wrap, but the box was taped shut and sealed and all the cables were in sealed bags and the CD envelope was gummed shut. It never occurred to me that it was a refurb. It works fine and all the parts were there.

eVGA's driver update sucks, though. The file is freakin' huge!!

I tried that but when I click on the link it brings me to a list of other suggested products, which makes me think its out of stock. I hope that doesnt mess up my RMA
the title of the product says:
eVGA 256-P2-N386 Geforce 6800GS 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail

since it says retail I wouldnt think its a refurb.

I recently ordered a LCD from tiger, and it took one credit card validation (they waited a week to email me about that) and two weeks before it arrived to my door. I spent over an hour waiting on the phone to 'validate' per there email, what a pita. Not sure if it's typical or not, but it really soured me to tigerdirect.

well now I am annoyed with newegg because I just purchased bitdefender since it was only 22 dollars for an online download, and when I downloaded it from the link newegg sent me it keeps telling me that I have a trial version. I;ve checked the email about 10 times for a license number, all they gave me is a serial # which is not my licence number. hopefully they will clear this up tomorrow. also, my shipping last time was pretty bad for newegg standards.

Hi Ho

I am always surprised at how people jump all over a couple screw ups and come to the conclusion that the good days are over. That goes for any company, not just Newegg. I certainly still trust Newegg and recommend them.

In regards to the Newegg support thread posted earlier, I can't help but wonder if that was prompted by an email I sent about an hour before it was posted in which I pointed out the "Newegg and UPS" thread and all the unhappy UPS customers.

I have only recently started using newegg (getting parts for my first PC build), and it took them a while to verify, and get the order ready (2 business days, not too bad given the amount of business I suppose), and it took 4 days to arrive (for some reason it spent a couple days in Portland, which is all of 3 hours away from my town in WA), but of course, that's an issue with UPS. My experience with newgg was rather pleasant, the mobo is still wrapped in its anti-static bag (not pulling it out 'til I start the assembly process), and was exactly as described (after reading the manual and packaging, unless by some odd twist of fate the wrong item got wrapped up at the factory and placed in the wrong box...which is highly unlikely). I just ordered my case from them, and will be ordering my CPU within a week (although I may spring for better shipping on it, since it's $0.99 for 3 day UPS, it should be pretty cheap for something way better...went UPS with the case, cause I didn't feel like paying more than $13 in shipping costs. Hopefully, UPS handles it as well as the mobo...which surprised me, cause UPS is known for rough handling due to rushing their drivers, and leaving parcels on unanswered doorsteps). So far so good, hopefully nothing shales my confidence in the company. My only real issue with newgg seems to be an outdated pictoral representation of the case I purchased... according to the manufacturer website, the PSU comes with a 24 pin connector (4 removable), but the site pic only shows a 20. With some email tag, it got cleared (manufacturer contact), but then again, if I replace the PSU (which seems recommended), it isn't exactly a worry anyway.

I wouldn't say the good days are over, but maybe they were understaffed and unprepared for a big holiday season, that's my guess. I will continue to use them and zzf, I find both to be excellent and the prices are usually the best at one of the two.

Thanks kstatefan40, I used that link and they gt back to me. here is what they said

"Thanks for letting us now of your current situation. We checked RMA#11071347 that you provided and the video card was received on 1-18-2006 and should be processed in about 3 business days.

Your returning shipping will be FedEx overnight for the replacement video card. If you could please provide us the amount that you paid for return shipping and we can credit you up to $10 of the shipping cost.

Thank you,

Newegg Support"

I take back anything negative i said about them =)

flawedreality5

I got a quick response as well to my problem. Whoever thought that a company would go out of its way to make house calls on a forum site to help. I'll give them another shot. I had over $800 of stuff shipped for my build with no problems last year. I just hope this doesn't happen again.

Eriol
01-18-2006, 11:19 PM
My only other concern is I just received an email stating that the RMA type is repair.
Since I received an obviously open and not new card, i believe it shouldnt be repaired but a new card should be sent. I sent a new message to that account, and if the last response was any indicator I think it will be resolved. But we shall see ;)

PM on the way..

Eriol

YES!,
I received my CPU AMD 4000+ San Deigo Core opened and in a badly taped box. Fortunatly, the CPU worked, which is more than I can say for my video card. Thats 2 strikes against newegg for me.

Update on the video card, It was returned back to me b/c I removed the big serial number sticker (please dont yell at me, I didnt know 1st time builder, I feel bad enough). However, I still think they should have replaced it b/c there was a little sticker on it with the serial number. So now I'm stuck with a card that only works 50% of the time.

NewEgg Support, disregard that PM. I got it handled.

I'll be credited, so I can buy another CPU.
