format (.dbx)? I just upgraded a friend's system and he doesn't want to loose all his old mail.

Thanks,

Rita

What file type are you trying to convert to? .eml? What mail program are you using/planning to use?

What e-mail software was on the 95 machine? I assume you want to import all that stuff into Outlook Express 5? If it's MS Internet Mail or Outlook Express 4, you should be able to use the import/export function in OE5. If it was something else like Eudora, why not just keep using it?

Here's a little more info:

The old configuration was Win95 running Outlook Express 4.0
When I backed up his email files, I didn't use the export untility, I just copied all of the files from C:\windows\application data\Microsoft\Outlook Express\Mail.

The new configuration is Win98se running Outlook Exp 5.0
I can't simply copy his old files into C:\windows\application data\identities\....\Outlook Express because the file format is different and OE5 can't read them.

I've tried using the import utility in OE5 but I get an error message stating:

"No messages can be found in this folder or another application is running that has the required files open.
Please select another folder or try closing applications that may have files open."

Well I've directed it to the correct folder and no other apps are open, so I'm assuming that the import utility can't read them because I didn't use the export utility to save them. I've had the same problem with address book by copying instead of exporting.

So, I'm hoping to find a way to convert OE4's file format (*.idx & *.mbx) to OE5's format (*.dbx) with a third party utility.

Do you folks know of any? Or perhaps another solution?

Thanks for your responses so far,

Rita
