I have a HP 6540 C and last week when I went to defrag the HD it keep shuting down and saying that disk contents had changed. I never could get through it. I went to Ctrl-Alt_Del and shut down everything but SYSTRAY, and Explorer. and ran it again. it still did not work. I then went to the safe mode and tried there but the same thing. I then felt I had a virus and reformated and restored, that has not helped. What do I do next. thanks

What version of Windows? Do you have MS Office, if so, disable fast find. If you are running Win9x, get a copy of the WinME defrag as it works much better and faster.

I still ran into that problem ONCE on a machine with WINME. But it was an e-Machine...
I'll stop there...
