SuSe + Wireless [Archive]

I have a Netgear WG111 USB wireless networking adaptor that I use to get online. I have just installed SuSe 9.1 on my Computer and it is working great. The only holdup is that I can not get on line because I have no clue how to get the wireless to work with SuSe. It appears as if SuSe has provisions for wireless built in, but I don't know how to set them up. Can anyone give me some hints? Thanks a mill! :)

I googled around a bit and there is some indication that your device will work with ndiswrapper. Ndiswrapper is a linux program which allows you to use windows wireless card drivers in linux in an emulated mode. I also saw indications that there is work for a native linux driver going on now. You may want to check it out further.
However, one thing you could do to increase your chances of getting it working is install a more modern version of suse. Suse 10 is now freely downloadable here:

If you're lucky, it may have support out of the box.

Well, I now have SuSe 10.0 installed and working great. When I connect to my friends network with my computer using the 10/100 NIC, Linux sees the network, but I can not get on line (he has an always on connection). In windows, all I need to do is set everything in the network to auto detect, and I can get on line just like that. My guess is, seeing that Linux sees the network and can access files on it with no problem, that I just don't know how to properly configure the web browser. Help!!!:eek:

You have to configure the network internet access in YAST, the system configuration suite in suse. I haven't used suse in years, so I'm not sure exactly how to do that, but in general, you would configure the system to access the internet through your nic using dhcp. If you were connected to the net at the time you installed, this would be done automatically. You could get more specific help on suse here:
