Greetings all!

Okay, I have a fresh install of Windows XP SP1 and you can see my system stats in my sig below. I have the latest ATI Catalyst 6.1 drivers installed, but I can't install the VGA drivers for my mobo. I have a feeling that this is affecting my video performance; namely, in Need For Speed Most Wanted. I know the game will run well at low settings because it did before. But with the fresh install of Win XP, it barely runs at all.

When I try to install the VGA drivers, I get an error message saying that the device is not recognized. But when I look in My Computer/Properties/Hardware/Device Manager it says that the Radeon 9600 is there and functioning properly.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Try the official SiS drivers.

http://www.sis.com/download/

Choose "chipset software", there will be 3 items. SATA & RAID, AGP (GART), and IDE.

hey!

thanks for the link to the drivers! they seemed to help a little, but I still can't install the VGA. it says "hardware not recognized, may not be installed properly".

I did some searching around and found out why my ATI Catalyst control center wasn't working. I installed .NET Framework and now it's fine.

just can't understand why the VGA drivers won't install!

Exactly what VGA drivers are you trying to install?

the SiS 3.72 from the website... my chipset may not be supported though.

maybe if I try to uninstall everything, take out the vid card, and start from scratch...

question: what would happen if I tried to boot the system with no video card installed and no onboard graphics?

If everything is working properly, you don't NEED the chipset drivers. Is the card running at 8x with benchmarks comparable to other machines with similar specs?
